[GRASSLIST:5983] problem with r.in.ascii

I may be dense, but when I try to import my data into a raster format
with r.in.ascii, I get category values that are orders of magnitude off
from the numbers I intended. I entered r.in.ascii with the float option.

Here is a sample header from the file

south: 4179541
east: 567376
west: 566376
rows: 2500
cols: 3

566376.00000 4179541.00000 0.02640
566396.00000 4179541.00000 0.02788
566416.00000 4179541.00000 0.02962
566436.00000 4179541.00000 0.03170
566456.00000 4179541.00000 0.03422
566476.00000 4179541.00000 0.03725
566496.00000 4179541.00000 0.04085
566516.00000 4179541.00000 0.04506
566536.00000 4179541.00000 0.04990

Does anyone have any advice as to why this is happening?
