Please check the contents of
 /usr/local/grass-6.0.0/

It should be something like this:
 AUTHORS
 bin/
 bwidget/
 COPYING
 demolocation/
 docs/
 driver/
 etc/
 fonts/
 grass60.tmp*
 include/
 lib/
 locale/
 man/
 README
 REQUIREMENTS.html
 scripts/

also, does etc/ contain files? It should.

Maybe the disk was full during installation?
