This may be part of the d.zoom mouse polling problem already in the
bug database, but here goes anyway:

I have a large DEM 19000x16000 cells fully displayed. When I zoom in
the procedure reads the left-click, pauses for a moment, reads the
middle-click and redraws quickly, and then hangs for several minutes
before returning control to the console.

Subsequent zooms are more efficient, but quitting out of that results
in the same several minute wait until control returns to the console.

Is this slow zooming/panning performance a bug?
