[GRASSLIST:9749] output types in r.out.gdal

Hi everyone,

I have been working with some landsat imagery in GRASS, and am wondering if 
there is a concise description somewhere on the relative differences between 
the different "type" options that exist in the GRASS function r.out.gdal. 
i.e. what is really meant, in terms of image quality or portability, by 
'Byte', 'Int16', 'UInt16', .... etc?
