For the record: libxmu-dev was missing (see 
http://grass.itc.it/pipermail/grass5/2004-June/014678.html).
Thanks Markus for helping with this.
I still have the old problems with ldd on 
`debian/grass/usr/lib/grass/bin/r.sim.water'

Update: after a bugfix from radim, the only error left is with nviz:
Errors in:
/home/paolo/Desktop/buildpackage/Grass2/grass-6.1.0/visualization/nviz
Still broken, however.
