I don't have any more reasonable ideas. Maybe try another TCL/TK version
(Debian should provide 8.3 and 8.4)?

On Ubuntu Breezy and Dapper it is not segfaulting in Grass 6.1. Can you
try it on your Debian machines?

grass-commit archive to check if somebody had/fixed the bug.
