[GRASS-user] Fun and Games with FC5

Hello All,
I have been trying to get Grass6 running on Fedora Core 5, but have had a
spot of bother.
Neither the grass 6.0.2-1 rpms (from the FC5 download area), or the grass
6.1.cvs-2 rpms (from the FC4 download area) will run properly. Thus far it
looks like nviz is the main problem. It crashes whilst starting.
I had the 6.1.cvs-2 rpms working OK under FC4 but when I upgraded to FC5
that's when I struck trouble. I tried the 6.0.2-1 rpms which also suffered
the same problem. At that stage it wasn't obvious what was going on, so
fetched the source rpms to try to build it myself. That didn't work either,
make giving up with compiler errors, so I haven't had much luck :-)
I currently have the 6.1.cvs-2 rpms installed which gives a backtrace when
nviz crashes. I can provide the whole gory detail if it is needed.
The message just prior to the backtrace is as follows...

***glibc detected*** nviz: munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer: 0x09b37328

I should add that when I installed the 6.1.cvs-2 rpms under FC5 some missing
dependencies were reported, but the libs were actually present, so I forced
the install on the assumption that the package manager simply checks its
database and doesn't actually check if dependencies can be found in the
likely haunts.

Any advice as to how I can get grass6 (or 6.1) working properly with FC5 will
be much appreciated.

Cheers,
