Hi Wolfgang -
I have recently used v.digit for the first time (in Grass 6.0.1).
I had similar problems. Changing the snapping threshold did not work for 
me. I just had to zoom in close enough instead.
I then switched to digitising with the Grass plugin of Qgis, because 
there I could zoom with the mouse wheel during vertex input.
