Hi all,

the r.seg module for image segmentation and discontinuity detection is
now available with documentation, including examples based on the North
Carolina GRASS data set, and a simplified user interface.

The module, based on the Mumford-Shah variational model, generates a
piece-wise smooth approximation of the input raster and a raster of the
discontinuities of the output approximation. The discontinuities of the
output approximation are preserved from being smoothed.
Details on the implementation, examples, and the source code can be
found here: http://www.ing.unitn.it/~vittia/sw.
The module is also available in the GRASS AddOns source code repository
via SVN. [see http://grass.osgeo.org/wiki/GRASS_AddOns]

For any comments and further information feel free to contact me.

Regards,

Alfonso Vitti
