[GRASS-user] trouble with vector works

shape-file-defintion (see ESRI Shapefile Technical Description: http://www.esri.com/library/whitepapers/pdfs/shapefile.pdf) :

.shx - the file that stores the index of the feature geometry

so a .shx-file is part of a shape-file.

for a shapefile you should use the v.in.ogr-tool and choose name_of_the_shapefile.shp and not the .shx-file.

a dxf-file has the extension .dxf. if you want to import this kind of data use v.in.dxf.
