[GRASS-user] Unable to start Grass with North Carolina dataset

Please check the file
/home/ttamba/grassdata/nc_spm_08/landsat/.gislock
for ownership and date.

Since it is in your home and not a network directory, this happens if
you try to open more than one GRASS GIS sessions in the same *mapset*.
You can work in the same location with more sessions (also run by
other users) but not in the same mapset.

If it is a leftover outdated file and no GRASS session is running
therein, then you can simply remove it.

Note that recent GRASS versions open a related dialog.
