as GRASS data import/linking is related to GDAL/OGR, have a look at [1] and
[2] to get an overview about supported formats.

just do gdalinfo/ogrinfo --formats to list supported formats on your
platform and see which of them matches your needs best regarding data
provided by your data provider.
