You can definitely run GRASS from the shell, in text mode
only. It's been like that for a few years now - since
about 1983 ;-)<br>
How did you install? Maybe try running the Init.sh
(/usr/lib/grass64/etc/Init.sh) to follow error messages.<br>
Also what shell are you running? I seem to recall seeing
in the original post zsh? Wonder if that could be the
problem?

nothing more than setting some environment
variables. I'd suggest you try to setup the
environment manually, then try to run some
modules. <br>
