Dear Colleagues,

We now have the chairs confirmed for the Africa region: Rania Elsayed Ibrahim (Egypt), Dr Serena Coetzee (who established the first OSGeo lab in Africa) and Bridget Fleming (South Africa).

Though we had excellent expansion for "Geo for All" globally, Africa (except South Africa) was one region where we did not make much progress till now. But i am fully confident that with these three great women now going to lead our Africa region thematic, they will be successful in changing this and will help bring the benefits of not just Openness in Geospatial but the bigger aim of spreading Open Education opportunities to more countries in Africa.

On behalf of all of us, let me thank all three of them for their efforts and coming forward to lead this.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Subject: [Ica-osgeo-labs] "Geo for All" Region wise and Subject Thematic groups established

Colleagues,

Following Sergio's excellent suggestion and inputs from the community ,we now have "Geo for All" Region wise and Subject Thematic groups formally established. The webpages of all the 5 regional groups and subject wise thematic groups ready.

With the region wise thematic groups established, the chairs of this are now the contact points for any new labs to be established in that region to contact and the mailing list becomes the first point of contact for the new members and all regional members in the region can use the list for collaborating on regional funding calls, FOSS4G local conferences etc. They will also be the administrators of the mailing lists and they will use the wikipages to develop their ideas with inputs from all members in their groups. This way we can make sure it is scaleable and meets local/region requirements/needs. All ideas welcome.
