[Ica-osgeo-labs] Documenting OGC standards and OGC standard training

This probably fits into the Smart Cities basket, but I'll reinforce my thoughts a bit around Infrastructure maintenance management and sharing of data.  This is where my own expertise lies, and building open and interoperable systems for this type of data management seems like it's a nice containable topic, and fairly easy to describe to a non-user.

All - i remember some of you mentioning use cases for different communities to understand the importance of open standards and also help educators in different thematics to teach this in their curriculum.

I suggest to focus on three use cases to get started and ask volunteers interested to join the WGs for these three (in fact, at the first stage i would suggest keeping focus on maximum 3 themes to build up and only then expand). For example, the Environment, Smart Cities/Urban was already mentioned by others yesterday but  maybe Transport can also be considered. All these have domain specific large groups who will benefit. The focus should be on creating educational materials not only for university programs (undergraduate, postgraduate, continuing professional development etc) but also for general public and decision makers.

I liked what Silvana mentioned (to make it effective, it needs two strands - one for technically skilled(programmer) but those that do not have the cartographic background and other for those who are geographers/cartographers but not technically skilled)

I would suggest that there also need to be focus on those who are not programmers or cartographic background if we need to impart the importance of Open Standards to wider public ( i.e there should be no prerequisites) and these materials should be high level overview . In fact having these usecases might be excellent for catering to this need.

Thanks for today's meeting and great to see the ideas/actions discussed.

Because of time limitations in today's meeting though we didn't discuss coordination with GeoForAll Education content development activities and OGC E-learning and i suggest that we will follow this in future telemeetings and we will also add this to the agenda of  the GeoForAll meeting that Charlie Schweik is planning at FOSS4G-Europe in Como.

I will also share this recordings with other colleagues as this topic has wider interest and welcome them to join efforts on this.
