Thank you for your email and raising key points. I am also new to this idea , so i am learning this as we go. From the information that i could get so far (please see documents send by Anastasia that i am attaching) and website of geobadges [1], there is lot
of work that has been done for this initiative that we can build upon. I also see examples from OGC, OSM communities that are using this. More importantly this effort is backed by a respectable non-profit organisation with long history and excellent track
record (American Geographical Society <a href="http://americangeo.org/mission-vision-credo/" target="_blank">
http://americangeo.org/mission-vision-credo/</a> ) . Chris, Jon, Anastasia who are more knowledgeable in this can be our advisors and help us with this.<br>

You are right that there is definitely need for lot of volunteer work (defining criteria etc) to make this work but i think there is already good work that you yourself have lead (OSGeo Advocates) that we can make use of to build this. For example, our OSGeo
Advocates platform [2] is a good foundation to build up our GeoAmbassodors scheme . We need more Ambassodors of Open Principles in Geography and we need to have a system in place to encourage<b> more Ambassodors for Open Principles for</b> <b> expanding
Spatial Literacy and geographic awareness in Schools</b>. <b>Geo for All is committed to protect Open Principles in GeoEducation</b>. We are seeing examples of Open Principles in GeoEducation being silenced by Properitery Agenda which is cause of great concern.
I have send open letter humbly requesting AAG office bearers to please specifically include Open Education principles and FOSS4G tools firmly in the ConnnectED concept but for some reason that i do not understand, some AAG office holders seems to be made
pawns in pushing Properitery agenda in Geoeducation [3],[4]. We cannot remain silent spectators to this. Geo4All will support Open Principles in GeoEducation. We may not have the money or sponsorship power (1 Billion USD software donation marketing bhah bhah
bhah!) but do we have amazing people power who are doing selfless service for Open Principles in GeoEducation[5],[6],[7],[8]. Building a GeoAmbassador program for Geo4All will help us empower teachers globally and i request the community to come with ideas
and help us in this.<br>

I request Jon to give a presentation to the community, so we can get more ideas on GeoBadges and how we can use this this to support and protect Open Principles in GeoEducation.

Geobadges will be of best value when they have built up a brand and are widely recognised.<br>
This requires marketing, associating of the badge with something of interest (such as associated with quality). To build association of quality with badges requires some review criteria and review system, which requires quite a significant amount of volunteer
effort before there is enough content to make the geobadges useful. As such, I think this would be a hard concept to get off the ground.<br>

Last week, i emailed the community with some background info on GeoBadges [1] send by Anastasia Tom of the American Geographical Society [2] . So far, i did not get any response /ideas .<br>

<div>I understand that badges can also be given for service. For example, we have done Geo4All Educator Awards[3] last year , we can plan to have badges given for all nominees etc and expand ideas for giving GeoBadges for service to OSGeo education activities
(from contributing tutorials, course materials etc) to acknowledge and encourage more participation. I would welcome ideas from the community on how we can make use of this GeoBadges opportunity from AGS for expanding our impact.

I suggest we explore ideas for acknowledging the amazing service that all colleagues are providing for various Geo4All education activities (Ambassador, Educator etc). We have an amazing team of contributors at all levels (who are the magic behind Geo4All)
and it is high time, we put in place a structure to show our appreciation and thank you to these amazing people for their selfless service for the benefit of the wider community.<br>

Some examples below:<br>

<li>We could give <b>GeoBadges for Service for our Education efforts</b>. We have the Geo4All Educator Awards and this can be extended in future by having all nominees receiving GeoBadges and Citation for their work. I suggest that Charlie (as the chair of
award committee or his nominee) should lead this. </li></ul>

<li>We could plan <b>GeoBadges for our GeoAmbassador program for expanding Spatial Literacy and geographic awareness in Schools globally</b>. Once the MapStory platform is launched with new functionalities, we would be announcing our partnership with MapStory
Foundation to plan spatial literacy for schools globally to help build spatially thinking society. We need to have lot of GeoAmbassadors (who are all volunteers) to make this program a success. One way to acknowledge the contributions of our GeoAmbassadors
is we provide GeoBadges for our Spatial Literacy GeoAmbassadors. All ideas welcome on how we can plan this.
