Hi lists,
we have slightly simplified the procedure for testing the unofficial
GeoServer release supporting GDAL through ImageIO-Ext. (A GeoServer version
supporting MrSID, JP2K (MrSID), JP2K (Kakadu), DTED, Erdas Imagine, NITF
Format).
The new release is available at
http://www.geo-solutions.it/libraries/geoserver-1.7.0-SNAPSHOT-war.zip.

We have set a simple guide with instructions and links to test the release.
This guide is available as:
HTML: http://www.geo-solutions.it/doc/geoservergdal.html
PDF: http://www.geo-solutions.it/doc/geoservergdal.pdf
OpenOffice Doc: http://www.geo-solutions.it/doc/geoservergdal.odt

Before testing GeoServer, be sure you have read the section "Some notes on
the GeoServer usage" on the ImageIO-EXT-GDAL WIKI page:
http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTOOLS/ImageIO-EXT+GDAL#ImageIO-EXTGDAL-SomenotesontheGeoServerusage%26nbsp%3B

Finally, note that due to licensing issues, the available dynamic libraries
enable support for MrSID, JP2K (MrSID), DTED, Erdas Imagine, NITF formats.
If you need to add support to JP2K (Kakadu) and ECW, see instructions
available at http://www.geo-solutions.it/doc/ImageioExt-SetupGuide.odt(OpenOffice)
or
http://www.geo-solutions.it/doc/ImageioExt-SetupGuide.pdf (PDF), sections
"GDAL Requirements" and "GDAL Configurations" for further information on
enabling ECW and Kakadu support on GDAL. For further helps on this topic,
ask questions.

Regards,
Daniele
