Hello!

We have a job offer here for OSGeo software interested people at the
University of Hohenheim:

Development of spatial data infrastructure components for precision
farming applications (Doctoral degree)

From April 2011 on there is a research job vacant at the Weed Science
Department of the University of Hohenheim (Prof. Dr. Gerhards). The
salary for a limited time of three years will be oriented at TVL E13 (50%).
Working field

Farm management systems need to handle spatial data, e.g. for the field
locations, crop and soil information. Precision farming technologies
involve the creation, storage and analysis of measurement data from
within the field, which can be used to optimise the management decisions
on a sub-field level. There are currently no agreed techniques to handle
and share this type of data within farm management systems, within the
machinery on the field and different information systems. Within an
international project on the European scale these problems are addressed
and use cases for the seamless handling of geodata between different
components for precision farming applications are developed. Spatial
data infrastructure components based on standards for geodata handling
(OGC) are to be developed and the interoperability in different systems
to be evaluated.
Requirements

The applicant should have a Master or comparable degree of a university
in geomatics, informatics, agricultural sciences, electrical engineering
or other, preferably technical subject. A doctoral grade can be
achieved, therefore the applicant should conform to the requirements of
the University.

The applicant should have some of the following skills:

    * Geographic Information Systems (GIS) knowledge, especially
          o spatial data infrastructures
          o OGC standards (WMS, WFS-T, WCS, …)
    * Computer skills beyond office programs
    * Software development and server configuration
    * Linux OS administration skills
    * Self-reliant working style
    * Team player in interdisciplinary working field
    * Good spoken and written English

The position is located within an interdisciplinary team of agricultural
and geographic researchers and requires travelling (within Europe). For
further enquiries about the position contact Dr. Martin Weis, Phone:
+49–(0)711–459–22938, Martin.Weis at uni-hohenheim.de.

If you are interested in the position please send your application (CV,
