Dear all,

Muki Haklay informs me of this job opportunity. Altough it doesn't mention
OSGeo software explicitly, it involves processing of OpenStreetMap data and
short-paths and python.

Please read the forwarded e-mail for details.

Hi all,
One of our colleagues, Catherine Holloway, is looking for a small development
that she needs to deliver by the beginning of December, and has a small budget
to pay for it (few £K). It is part of the PICAV EU project
(http://bit.ly/rRHwga). Catherine worked with Patrick Weber on the mapping
party that was carried out with our students in September -
http://www.spatialknowledge.eu/?s .
The description of the work is provided below, and it doesn't seem especially
complex - but if you have more questions please address them to Catherine
(cc'd).

If you have the capacity and willingness to help her, please get in touch.
Otherwise, if you know of someone else who might be able to do so - please let
them know about this project and put them in touch with Catherine?

Many thanks
Muki

Background
As part of a larger project to implement a fleet of Personal Intelligent City
Accessible Vehicles (PICAVs) we have developed code which simulates peoples'
journeys in the new transport network. This network consists of pedestrian
routes where PICAVs will be able to travel. The aim of the code is to test
where to place parking lots within the network and to see how many PICAVs
should be parked so that the amount of time people have to wait to rent a
PICAV is minimised. We are now looking to develop a GUI for this code which
will help us to display the results of the simulation along with how the
booking process would work to members of the public.
Job Description
We are looking for someone who could help who would be able to develop a GUI
for the simulation code (written in Python 2.5 and already completed) which
would be able to do the following:

· Read Open Street Map data for a specific area and create a transport
network from this area. The area in question is the historical city centre of
Genoa, Italy and so is quite small. The transport network will consist of
streets where PICAVs will be able to travel and will have a number of parking
lots allocated for parking and charging these vehicles (which will be fixed).
The traffic is by directional, so no need for complex routing.

· Allow people to choose an origin and destination within the network
and then direct them to the nearest parking lot for their chosen origin and
destination. Also, allow them to choose when they would like to make the
journey

· Implement a shortest path algorithm between the 2 points in the
network including the walking time to the nearest parking lot and graphically
display the chosen route on the map

· Run the simulator and update the map of the area with a graphical
representation of the waiting times of people and the number of PICAVs at each
parking lot

· Slow down the simulator when the person's journey is due to take
place and graphically update their waiting time/journey on the GUI

· After the journey is complete run the rest of the simulation

· At the end of the simulation, display a snapshot of average and
maximum wait times and PICAV idle time at each of the parking lots during the
simulation along with the individual users waiting time and journey time
