Hi Cameron,

> Nice work getting gisvm out.

Thank you!

GISVM.COM is just my small contribution to the FOSS4G community.
It's and old idea that came from my past personal experience on deploying an
SDI FOSS4G server and working with virtualization technology.

As you probably know, Virtual Appliances are very popular on other server
solutions markets.
Packages like LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Php), LAPP (Linux, Apache,
Postgresql, Php), etc are very popular VA and are an important contribution for
this technology success.

I was very surprised to conclude that it was not possible to find a single Virtual
Appliance for GIS on the internet! Then I decided to be the first to deliver
one…

I have come to know about this Live-Demo project by talking with Lorenzo on the first OSGeo
PT congress (20.Sept.08). And I agree with Lorenzo when he says that, Live-CD's
and Virtual Machine can walk together on helping more people to get into FOSS4G.

But I must confess that I don’t know much about LISAsoft work on the Live DVD.

I think it’s a great idea!
Define a standard for this packaging is fundamental.
Everyone benefits from it: users, developers, etc.
And it seems to me a very interesting challenge!!!!

I’ve also talked with Jody and other FOSS4G software developers.
For me it’svery important that software developers (groups/houses) support this kind of
packaging. They could help a lot on optimization, stability and performance. So they must be an active part of the project!

Other interesting challenge is to put every FOSS4G software installed directly from linux
distribution packages, and work closer with Debian, Ubuntu, etc GIS linux groups.
(http://wiki.debian.org/DebianGis , https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGIS )

To conclude,

I am very pleased and interested on working more closely with you.
And we must keep talking on this idea and I appreciate more info about what LISAsoft is doing and what are your goals.

Thank you,
Ricardo Pinho

Hi Ricardo,
Nice work getting gisvm out.

I've been talking with Jody Garnett (who sits next to me now) and we were wondering about the possibilities about working more closely with you with the work that LISAsoft has been putting into the Live DVD.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you see opportunities for collaboration? Maybe have a meta packaging project which could be used to create derivatives?
