...also posting to Local Chapters because there are some answers to
similar recurring questions. This is from a request how to use the
FOSS4G name by Local Chapters (and some details on OGC and OSM).

Are you aware of the fine differences between these three communities?
It is very important that you are really clear about the role of each -
especially when you go online with a public event. I gave a short
presentation which might help you understand the different constructs:

This one aims at OGC members:
2011-09-16. "The State of OSGeo" given at the FOSS4G 2011 Conference in
Denver, Colorado, USA.
http://arnulf.us/publications/what-is-openness_ogc-tc-meeting_boulder.odp

This one aims at OSM people. You can see many similarities but also a
slightly different focus:
2011-09-11. "What is Openness in OGC, OSGeo and OSM?" Presentation at
SOTM 2011, download slide set:
http://arnulf.us/publications/what_is_openness.odp

The general introduction how OSGeo works and is structured (including a
general intro to FOSS) is here:
2011-09-13. "Wading into Geospatial Open Source" Workshop for Open
Source newcomers at FOSS4G. Download slide set:
http://arnulf.us/publications/wading_into_geospatial_open_source.odp

All presentations are available for download as PDF or ODT here:
http://arnulf.us/Publications#2011
and most are also available as video or slideshare.

In general OSGeo uses the brand FOSS4G for events like conferences. If
you plan to highten the visibility of Indonesia I suggest to kindle the
OSGeo Local Chapter:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Indonesia

There are specific OSGeo trademark guidelines:
http://www.osgeo.org/trademark_guidelines

You can create a specific logo for the Indonesia Local Chapter chapter
like others did, for example:
http://www.osgeopt.pt/
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Spanish
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSSGIS_e.V.

But make sure that you really include the whole community! It is very
important that this is a collaborative and inclusive process because it
bonds the community.

See above presentations for a very short introduction.

OCG works very different to OSGeo or OSM. It has a paying members who
have different level of leverage in the consortium. There a associate
members who can participate everywhere but cannot vote. Technical
members can vote on new standards. Strategic members are also on the
planning committee which influences how the whole organization evolves.
The OGC is in business for quite some time, it is a well respected
expert community.

OSM has the loosest organization of the three. There is a central
foundation but the local groups are very strong and not connected very
strongly. The foundation is in the process of defining how Local
Chapters work but as far as I know this is still very much in the making.

> Esp we know mapnik os not ogc standard

Haha. Here you have to be careful how you formulate this. A software can
never "be" an OGC standard. A software can only implement a standard.
Afaik Mapnik does implement the OGC WMS standard and probably others too.

Mapnik has so far not applied to be incubated in OSGeo. Therefore it is
not an officially graduated OSGeo project. But this does not mean that
OSGes does not "want" or "like" Mapnik. Instead, Mapnik is part of OSGeo
Live (http://live.osgeo.org/) and has been part of past FOSS4G
conferences during the WMS shootout and in many presentations, for
example here:
http://2010.foss4g.org/wms_benchmarking.php

> I saw ut fossgis, have osm logo, .

Yes, we have the nacking of OSM Germany, which is not a legal body but
represents a large part of the German speaking OSM community.

As I said above, I am not yet aware of an official policy how to become
an OSM local chapter, but have heard that they are working on it.

> Also i see u are ogc board.

I am only on the *architecture* board of the OGC which is a nominated
and elected volunteer group focusing on uniting all OGC standards under
one functioning main approach. Lacking better words myself, here is the
official description:
http://www.opengeospatial.org/projects/groups/oab

If you want to have OGC become part of your event you will have to talk
to them directly. At FOSS4G events the OGC has so far not been an
integral part but we have collaborated, for example on a climate change
project:

Hope this helps.

Have fun,
Arnulf.
