 It would be nice if the shp load procedure new enough to automatically
 determine which type (point, line, polygon) of shp file is being loaded,
 and then makes the resulting layer show only that type. Right now, you end
 up having to edit each layer manually to turn off any type that is not
 used - otherwise they show up in the legend.
