 No problem, 1) is enough to ease the use of an external editor.

 I've proposed 2) and 3) just in case they were not so difficult to
 implement.
 Otherwise IMHO it is not worth spending too much time on them.

 For me it's ok to close the enhancement when 1) is implemented
