ArcSDE (spatial database engine) is actually the back-end technology from
ESRI for storing spatial information in a relational database. It costs
roughly $10,000 and ArcIMS (the MGOS equivalent from ESRI) is about another
$10,000 on top of that. There is an FDO ArcSDE data provider so those who
have it can read information from ArcSDE and display it in MapGuide (or Map,
or other software using FDO).

Subject: [mapguide-users] Confused about ArcSDE

Hi *,

i want to install MapGuide. so i have read the Getting Started and install
documentation. But i dont understand what ArcSDE is. I think its a
Thirdparty Software? Should i buy this software to get MapGuide completly
installed or it is just a feature?

Thanks!

Stefan
