It is definitely possible to use MGOS 2.2 with the tools you have indicated. The difference for the setup we have used is that the MapGuide directory resides as a sub of the .Net MVC project. This allows each site to have individual settings. 

I haven't seen your particular error but I can check at work and see I anyone else has.

Step 1: I put the project in the "OSGeo \ MapGuide \ web \ www"
Step 2: After I create the virtual directory in IIS 5.1 service, pointing to
the ASP.NET project
Step 3: in visual studio 2010, I import the web project and I build the web
site
