In IIS, there is a node in the tree called "Application Pools".
Create a new Application pool, and call it something like "MapGuide
Application Pool".
On the mapguide toplevel folder, right click and select properties.
Change the Application Pool in the combo box, and selection your newly
created "MapGuide Application Pool".
Click OK and answer yes to applying this to childnodes.
You MapGuide Installation now runs in a seperate Application pool.
You can create different application pools for all your applications,
if you wish.
If you use .Net 1.1 and 2.0, you must have at least 2 application pools.

You can move the installation folders around, but most tools and
examples expect the default layout, so there may be quirks if you do so.

You would mind explaining this process step by step? I'm not an expert on
getting multiple websites to work together. So far I've had good success on
our test server, but the main webapps server is where the challenge is.
I've also brought in the services of our programmer but there isn't much
back end knowledge regarding what Mapguide requires. (One wish list item is
for the installer to allow the server to be installed on a different
location than the default)
So far we've tried different scenerios from creating application pools, to
seperate web sites for mapguide. One thing I've not too clear on is the
process of what needs to be created (and pointed to what) before mapguide
server is recreated from the config file.
The other question I had is, does Mapguide require to be run as a
sub-website like it installs in the default or can the virtual folders be
located in the parent location (when creating a new Website). I hope I'm
explaining this correctly. It would be good to post a picture of what we
are encountering.
Thanks for the help!

Yes, I've seen this too. You can't run 1.1 and 2.0 apps in the same
application pool.
Technically, you only need a single application pool for each .Net
version, but really should probably create a separate pool just for
MapGuide. This can be shared across all of the MapGuide virtual
directories if you want.
You can also run MapGuide outside of your default website. Just export
the current mapguide virtual directory (or maybe the website) to a
config file and then re-import the mapguide virtual directory into the
new website. Make sure to set up the alternate application pool before
doing this though.

Subject: RE: [mapguide-users] MG2.0 install with other web applications
I believe the issue may be related to the fact that .NET 1.1 and 2.0
apps must each run in their own application pool if I remember something
I read a while back. You might have to define separate application pools
for each virtual directory.

Subject: [mapguide-users] MG2.0 install with other web applications
I'm looking to find out how to install MapGuide 2.0 server along with
other
web applications that are installed in the "Default Website" location in
the
IIS manager? We've run into a challenge with the server not running
correctly along side web applications that use .NET1.1. The problem
exists
after everything is installed. I can log into the admin page and the
web
studio page, but when I try to connect to the server via MapGuide Studio
2009 beta or AutoCAD Map, I get a connection error. When I change the
ASPNET tab to run .NET 2.0 for the mapguide server it makes all the
other
.NET 1.1 sites lock up and shows an error message in IIS of not being
able
to run both 1.1 and 2.0 applications in one location.
