I'm pretty sure we have some folks interested here in OpenGL in MapServer.  Possibly adding to the dev mix.

I think this is a neat idea to have the drawing be hardware accelerated. I'm
curious to see the results of this effort.
I've already been thinking about a DirectX implementation, however this may
more likely be more platform neutral.
+1 to create a branch for the implementation.
