Alan,

Very (VERY) interesting.

Are there any problems anticipated with adding in (at a later date) the ability to pull elevation models from the contours based on line features ?? An alternate output, still a raster (or vector) output from MapServer, but from a camera projection instead of mapping . . .

This is starting to hit nervously close to actual 3D display as well.  For example, pulling the elevation along a line from more than one such layer as you describe starts getting into some real-world 3D visualization and analysis functionality (which I'm all for!!).  Also with some clever math applied, you could do some interesting things with generating oblique views, even draping of other layers onto the . . . well you know all this I bet . .  but you did ask.  :c)
