Java example

I am able to display maps online using mapserver. Now, I like to move on to
a Java version. I need to be able to click and drag a rectangle on the map
to zoom in or out the map. Also, click and drag a line to pan the map. Can
someone recommend a simple demo, including source code that will help me get
started with this?
