Try http://www.nationalatlas.gov/atlasftp.html.  Ther's a shape layer of
urban areas in the warehouse.

i don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but i'm trying to 
get a shape file (or any other format that will work) that has the the 
US towns and some way to reference to them for use with mysql, i found 
someone who said they should have something like that (i think) @ 
zip.ya-right.net but that site seems to be down

so can any one give me a link to a place where i could get this data, 
also i'd like to here of some good places to get the shape files (and 
other formats)
