Moving map in different directions

Hi! All,
I've my map and now i want to move it to North, South, East or West based
on users choice via some radio buttons say. How do i achieve this? I know
it can be achiedved through panning but how do i calcualte the coordinates
for moving north, south etc..i can subtract the left, right, up or down
limits but will that match exactly with the direction?

Pls. help.
