using annotation angles

Following the documentation for that, I added the font
  and type keywords under label, created a font.list file containing
the only ttf file (Vera.ttf) I could find on my (linux) computer and 
...and ...where does this font.list file belong? I created it in the 
same directory as the map file, executed mapserver, no errors, but no 
text belonging to that layer/label. I never heard of the Vera font, 
perhaps it is a non-printable font!

If you happen to know, perhaps you could respond to the below tacked on 
question.
