How To Read Arc Grid Directly?

I've seen people mention that you can read ArcInfo grids directly with GDAL, but I have not seen any documentation or examples. Can someone direct me to some, or outline how it is done? I assume you just compose your .map file in some way that refers to arc grids.

I'm a new to MapServer, and am running MapServer with MapScript (and GDAL) on Win2K.
