Chip,

Someone had posted this awhile back and it works nicely. Credit goes to
whoever posted it, I can't remember. You will have to define the Tahoma
font in your font file and make sure it is installed on your computer.
Hope this helps.

#symbol file
SYMBOL
    NAME 'railway'
    TYPE TRUETYPE
    FONT 'Tahoma'
    CHARACTER '|'
    GAP 10
  END

#mapfile
LAYER
     NAME rail
     DATA railroad
     STATUS OFF
     TYPE line
     MAXSCALE 140000
     CLASS
       NAME "Railroad"
       COLOR 0 0 0
       SIZE 1
       OVERLAYSYMBOL 'railway'
       OVERLAYCOLOR 0 0 0
       OVERLAYSIZE 6
     END
  END # railroads

Help! Does anyone have a symbol definition that looks vaguely like a
railroad? Thanks in advance.
