FW: extent of query for advanced client side scripting

Hello all!

It seems for me that if I want to use advanced client side scripting, f.ex.
zoomboxes, panning, etc., than I can use client side scipting to obtain
current extent and therefore get map by using mode=map.
But I anyway should to use a template to make some atribute queries, to get
result extent of selected features?
Am I right or there could be another solution?
