difficulity displaying GRASS rasters

Hello,
I have a Mapserver client which is trying to access a GRASS raster but I get
the following error message: .Unrecognized or unsupported image format
drawEPP(): Image handling error.
/var/www/cgi-bin/vc/valles/modis/PERMANENT/cellhd/MT3VG_2006_186_1521_250m_N
DVI.rc is not an EPPL file.
The grass database is on a different server but the database location is set
up as a share so that it appears to be a local drive on the server running
Mapserver and the client. I've tried putting a shapefile in the same shared
drive and Mapserver can read that. Permissions are open on the data. Any
ideas on why I may be getting this error would be greatly appreciated.
Machine details are below.
