This is the correct query-URL for PostGIS:

http://myServer.com/cgi-bin/mapserv?&map=/home/harry/Mapfiles/MyMap.map&mode=itemnquery&qlayer=City-Database&qitem=name&qstring=name='London'

qstring=name='London'

now it works fine :-)
