Displaying adjacent SHP files in MapServer? (converting from MapInfo)

Yes you are correct you don't have to do it manually.
It is automatically taken care of by tileindexing if
the information is part of your shp file.

I don't think their should be any accuracies. You can
however find the information about your files using
ogrinfo or gdalinfo, and use that information. You can
also amend or add the information by using wld file.
