One thing that might help is knowing that the MapServer terminology for zoom is Overviews as can be seen in <a href="http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/docs/howto/raster_data/#building-internal-overviews">http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/docs/howto/raster_data/#building-internal-overviews
