All that you have mentioned is possible with mapserver and grass both.<br>2. You need to decide whether you wish to have a client server architecture or web based GIS.<br>3. You need to visit the UMN-Mapserver website documentation( which is thankfully exhaustive) to learn more about mapserver. You do not need a book.<br>4. In case you wish it to be web based that i recommend Mapserver as the best bet. You will still need to do some html coding or java script to add additional features. Workshop.zip file is an excellent demo.<br>5.
