Frank,<br><br>It looks like the GDAL WMS driver does accept the XML strings directly, however we may run into a limitation in the maximum length (1024) in the MapServer GDAL driver since the connection string is handled as if it was a filename in every case.<br>

No, I do not believe so, though it would be relatively easy to modify the<br>
WMS driver to support this.<br>
