The motion did not pass, but it did not fail either. Instead it did not get sufficient response :)<div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">For those who did not respond how can we help? The other topics (accepting new members) got sufficient response so it is not a case of being too busy...</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">My own hopes/goals for making this motion are to reflect the casual / outreach nature of the marketing committee.</div><div dir="ltr">We have an outreach mandate that involves being available to event organizers, foss4g service providers, and so on .. so this should be a good change?</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Switching to <a href="http://discourse.osgeo.org">discourse.osgeo.org</a> gives us an immediate benefit of ...</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr"><ol start="1" style="margin:0px" dir="ltr"><li>Not being an email list. We can be reached directly using OSGeo user id, GitHub login, any OAuth service ...<br>Signing up for an email list is viewed as a burden in 2024, lowering the barrier to communication can only be a good thing.</li><li>Being an email list. There is some procedure for committee members to join a "group" and send/receive email from <a href="mailto:marketting@discourse.osgeo.org"><font color="#419cff">marketting@discourse.osgeo</font>.org</a>. This should preserve the existing workflow for anyone (like me) who does not plan to visit a website.</li></ol><div><br></div><div dir="ltr">And the following risk:</div><div dir="ltr"><ol start="1" dir="ltr" style="margin:0px"><li>Moderation: While there is some risk in public communication, especially for something called "marketting" we will need to try this out in public. There are of course block and moderation controls in discourse. There is also a members-only option to limit interaction to those who have "joined the group" (established for email notifications) - but I would prefer to try being accessible to the public first.</li></ol><div><br></div><div dir="ltr">Mechanics of transition:</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr"><ol start="1" style="margin:0px" dir="ltr"><li>Setup <a href="https://discourse.osgeo.org/c/marketting">https://discourse.osgeo.org/c/marketting</a> discourse; filled with content from the mailman archive history.</li><li>Associate <a href="mailto:marketing@osgeo.org">marketing@osgeo.org</a> email address with group; this would be used for those interacting like an email list.</li><li>Update wiki instructions on committee communication</li><li>During transition <a href="mailto:marketing@lists.osgeo.org">marketing@lists.osgeo.org</a> email list footer would provide instructions liking to wiki above</li><li>After 1 month shut off mailman, collect e-mail archives that have occurred in the meantime.
