[Journal] intro to list

I guess I would say that my current interest in open source GIS lies in the end-user realm.  I have been in the profession for several years, using primarily ESRI, and I've recently started looking into open source gis.  My main goal was to get out of the one solution mindset, and look at alternatives.  These have been mostly the desktop applications, but I've also looked into postgis and openlayers. I've been very impressed with what I've seen, and have started incorporating some of the desktop applications into my workflow when possible. I'm interested in learning about and finding ways to promote open source gis use at the local government level, along with encouraging open data access and standards.  I'm at best a hobby programmer, but I saw the opportunity to work on the OSGEO Journal as a way to give back.
