Rob

I agree with your thoughts on the data product specification. BOM, Vic DSE
and NSW Lands have been tinkering around the edge, and I had suggested that
ANZLIC create a project before I left the organisation, but I do not know if
anything has happened in the last few months.

hi,

there are some initial thoughts on the role of metadata profiles and metadata
editing environments within a registry-enabled data delivery environment
here:

https://www.seegrid.csiro.au/twiki/bin/view/AppSchemas/VocabularyBindingMecha
nismsWorkshop

even those these arent yet fully cleaned and ready for "prime time", I have
made the call that we should at least be thinking about the difference
between metadata-generated-as-part-of-a-coherent-strategy and
metadata-generated-post-hoc.

Post-hoc metadata has never been much fun for anybody, nor particularly
effective in realising interoperability of data services or even detailed
documentation about data. The EU SDI (INSPIRE) is looking at a data product
specification -driven approach, and hence any investment we make should be
relevant in that arean IMHO.

With some prodding from a number of you on this list, I've compiled a
"Strategic Geonetwork Investment" paper collating key suggestions on how
to refocus Aust/New Zealand's investment in Geonetwork.

The paper aims to collate suggestions from all of you and build upon
these suggestions.

I anticipate this document to be used as a talking point to focus future
discussions and investment decisions in Geonetwork.

I'm looking for feedback. I'm especially aware that the section on
stakeholders is quite thin.
Could people please update relevant sections before Friday 4 July and
send back to me to be incorporated into a version 1.0.
