[Aust-NZ] ESRI/Google indexing spatial data. Where is OGC?

OGC is still relevant because KML is now a pure OGC standard and KML
is becoming a default format for the GeoWeb.

Having said that, there are companies who have already started
indexing (or storing) data originating from governments and NGOs.
(check out http://finder.geocommons.com/). Notice Geocommons
provide the ability to expose FGDC metadata and make the vector data
(at least) available as Shapefiles.

That appears to smell a lot like a professional GIS person would want,
what do people think?

So at the moment there isn't a lot of Australian data.
