I don't think having regional groups is in anyway diluted talent.
This may be my own thinking, but I feel that a regional group is where
the value is.
Unless you have local people you can call on and meet with, it may as
well be a global group.
I.e. the value of Aust-NZ is to help facilitate two things:
* Conferences - well done
* Local meets / talent.
Think global, act local :-)
That does not however stop you working together across australia too,
just my opinion of the value of local groups.

Sorry if this has been raised before, if so can someone
please point me at the relevant info/contact person.
A couple of people I know (who are reasonably well versed
with FOSS4G, and very keen to boot) are interested in either
organising or attending a Queensland or Brisbane Chapter of OzGeo.
If there is a group already in existence we'd love to join,
if not I'd like to start coordinating one if others are interested.
