Hi Simon and list,

The meeting was very successful indeed and I look forward to the next one! I'll be there, Thursday the 22nd of July @OpenHub.

Not too sure about the Charles Dickens tavern (very limited selection of quality beers on tap), but the Sherlock Holmes and the good 'ol Mitre Tavern are close by too.

Hi All,

I think we call the first Melbourne Open GIS meeting a success, and
I'm happy to host it again at the OpenHub.

The Melbourne Open GIS Group is a forum to discuss open source and
proprietary GIS software that support open standards and
interoperability. Our June meeting brought together professionals from
geospatial and other disciplines such as database specialists and web
and mobile developers. We discussed topics ranging from the OpenGeo
Suite, to database performance, to iPad apps, to how to define optimum
school catchment districts.

As per the mapbutcher's suggested date, I've booked the OpenHub
meeting room for 4pm, Thursday the 22nd of July. Some refreshments
will be provided, and when we exhaust those (and our agenda), we can
make our way to the Charles Dickens Tavern.

I have a presentation this time that outlines the concepts behind an
'open platform' GIS, and the mapbutcher has offered to discuss 'why i
think the holy trinity of GIS is dead'. Other topics and questions are
encouraged. If you want to present anything, there will be a laptop
and projector available.

The meeting is open to anyone, BUT I must insist on RSVPs for this
meeting please.
