Hey John,

No official osgeo meetups in Perth. There had been talk of a georabble.org type event but not sure if anyone's put their hand up to organise one.

SSSI WA sometimes hold social events, but i have no idea whats currently scheduled (see spatialsciences.org.au). There is a vast community of guys across the industry here so feel free to ping me via email or twitter when you touch down. Beers can always be had and I'm sure we'd get a few guys along to whatever is organised
Agreed, there's some affinity between the 2 countries despite the language barrier... it felt like a parallel universe my first trip to Aus!

My partner's from WA so we're looking to spend some time, around 4-5 months, with the family. We currently live in the Yukon so a few months out in the winter is always a good idea! I'm also looking at it as a great opportunity to get involved in a larger geospatial community.

Unsure as of yet what work opportunities will come my way, keeping my eyes open though. I have dual Canadian/Australian citizenship so no need to worry about work visas (fortunately! I've paid my dues through years of immigration paperwork...).

Hi John,
Welcome to Australia. There seems to be a strong affiliation between Canada and Australia (we have hired 2 Canadians at LISAsoft already).

What brings you to Australia? What will you be working on?
