As long as:
 1. It continues to work with other popular SLD consumers (seems like it
    should)
 2. It doesn't greatly complexify the code

I'm generally supportive of making changes to support as many consumers
as possible. In this case, it seems like if we can, we should also
complain to ESRI: "XML... you keep using that word. I do not think it
means what you think it means."

But I think you have to be a customer to complain, so I don't think I
can be the one to do it.
