Hi,

I think you have no problems using "git Read-Only":
git://github.com/openlayers/openlayers.git

But if you do not want to download the development version use the links to
"Latest stable release" in
http://trac.osgeo.org/openlayers/wiki/HowToDownload (there are all the
files)
